Summer is the time to relax and enjoy the outdoors. Our family is always looking for the next fun activity. For example, we love that hiking is so close! Our favorite hikes include the Naches Peak Loop trail in Mt Rainier National Park, Umtanum Creek Falls Trail, and Silver Falls Loop. You can use the All Trails app to find more hikes as well!
We also love that there are so many great camping spots within a few hours of us! And if you haven’t floated the river yet, you’re missing out! We haven’t done it with the boys yet, but we may try this year now that they’re older!
Yakima has some great family-friendly events planned this summer. Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, or friend, we hope this list inspires you to come out and enjoy the great city of Yakima.
1. Downtown Summer Nights
We love Downtown Summer Nights because of the music, food, and stunning summer evenings! Starting June 15th, 2023, at 5:30, your family and friends can enjoy live music and top-notch food from local vendors every Thursday night. You can relax in the beer garden or hang out with your kiddos in the activities area, where there are arts and crafts for them to enjoy.
So head down to North Front Street between Yakima Avenue and Pendleton Way (just outside North Town Coffee House) for a fantastic fun evening!
2. Many Memorable Markets
Yakima’s markets are full of amazing food, local produce, and local vendors with excellent goods and products for sale. Here are a few that top our list:
- Yakima Famers Market on Sundays from 9 AM -1 PM, located at 22 S. 3rd St.
- Valley Mall Farmers Market is open in the Valley Mall parking lot from 10 AM-2 PM on Saturdays.
- Yakima Coffee Co. and The Planted Home host the Market. Follow them for updates on upcoming events.
3. Yakima Valley Pippins Game
Is there anything more American than watching a baseball game, eating a hot dog, and enjoying a summer evening with family and friends? The Pippins are a hometown favorite, and it’s a blast cheering them on! Check out their schedule for all the fun nights and themes they have coming up. Also, if your child is interested in baseball, check out their 3-day baseball skills camp.
4. Creative Yakima
Creative Yakima has excellent events throughout the summer. They have fantastic weekly themes, like a retro 80s or fairy garden. This camp will have your kids exploring their creative sides, and you will enjoy all the wonderful art pieces they bring home.
5. Hotshots 3 on 3 Basketball
The Hotshots 3 on 3 Tournament is always a valley favorite when friends and family turn out to cheer on their favorite teams. There are several divisions and fun competitions to watch. This tournament is for kids and adults, so if competing is more your family’s style, sign up! It will be held at the Sozo Sports Complex July 29-30, 2023.
6. Free Movies at the Majestic
Yakima theatres are hosting free movies at the Majestic throughout the summer starting June 21st, 2023, and going until August 17th, 2023, on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10 AM. Their movie selection has a little something for everyone. From Trolls to Land Before Time, your family can enjoy the AC and a fun movie.
