Technology continues to shape and transform our daily lives in today’s fast-moving world. One area that has seen significant growth and innovation is smart home technology. Homeowners now have the opportunity to transform their living spaces into intelligent, efficient, and convenient environments. The key is to select the right smart home features, as some may be more of a headache than help.

Innovative home features can make your life easier, but they will also save you money and be an attractive asset when it comes time to sell your home. Upgrades show that your home has been cared for with thoughtful comfort and function elements. So today, we’re sharing the top smart home features you can incorporate into your home in the Yakima Valley. Take a look…

1. Savings with a Smart Thermostat

It’s no wonder that a smart thermostat is the most common smart home feature we see. It saves money, is energy efficient, and helps you keep your home at the perfect temperature all day and night. They can be programmed to adjust automatically based on your schedule and even learn how long your home can warm up or cool down to change settings accordingly. We have ecobee at home, and we love it. The best part of the ecobee is the ability to schedule the temperatures we want when we want—from our phones.

2. Motorized Window Treatments

Another energy-efficient smart home feature! When you automate the opening and closing of your blinds or shades, you can regulate the temperature in your home more effectively, reducing the need for heating or cooling. This can lead to significant savings on energy bills over time.

Additionally, they provide increased privacy and security. With the ability to adjust your blinds or shades from anywhere in the room (through a handy app on your phone), you can easily control the amount of natural light and visibility in your home, which protects your privacy.

Not only are they convenient, but they are also a luxurious touch to add to your home. With sleek, modern designs and the latest technology, motorized blinds and shades can elevate the look and feel of any room. Plus, with customizable options like color, material, and opacity, you can find the perfect window treatment to match your style.

3. Smart Speakers

This feature is one of our favorites! We have Sonos speakers everywhere in our home, from stand-alone speakers to the surround sound entertainment system; we love the excellent experience you can create with them.

A smart speaker system creates a seamless audio experience that follows you from room to room. This can be especially helpful for entertaining guests or enjoying music while you hang out at home with your family. Plus, with the convenience of wireless connectivity and voice control options, Sonos (or other smart speakers) can easily enjoy your favorite tunes without any hassle. Again, we can manage all the speakers through an app on our phones!

4. Smart Home Safety Features

Home security has always been a top priority for homeowners, and smart home technology offers a range of advanced features to enhance security and safety. One of the main advantages is the ability to monitor your home remotely, so you can keep an eye on things even when you’re enjoying beach time with the family. Intelligent home security systems can alert you to any unusual activity or potential threats, giving you peace of mind and helping to keep your property and family safe.

At our house, we’ve opted for the ring and blink cameras which are all accessible from our phones. Another safety feature we couldn’t live without is the Lockly keyless entry. It uses a code instead of a key with an option to program our family members’ fingerprints for touch to open function. It’s so much better than carrying around keys.

5. Light Switches

Have you ever crawled into bed at night and forgot to turn the light off? It’s the worst! Instead, turn them off from your phone–while still in bed! You can control lamp switches and outdoor lights when you install smart light switches like Smart Life and Lutron apps.

We love using this smart feature to set our lights on a schedule. This is nice during different times of the year since it gets darker earlier or later, depending on the season, so you can have your lights go on earlier in the day or later in the evening. The ability to schedule your lights is also lovely for security, as it always looks like someone is home.

Adding innovative home features to your home increases security, efficiency, and savings. If you’re wondering what features would add value to your home, give us a call, text, or email anytime. We’d love to help!

Until next time,

Mal & Joel
